Magalia
Latin for Cottages
The name has changed but the beauty remains the same.
First Magalia was called Butte Mills in 1849 when we were a mining camp. Then the name changed to Dogtown in 1850. Dogtown, why Dogtown you ask? Does it have to do with dogs you ask? Why yes it does. There was a dog breeding operation around 1850 that led to the name Dogtown.
Shortly after the name Dogtown stuck a 54 pound gold nugget was discovered and it was called the Dogtown nugget. As you can imagine a 54 pound gold nugget attracted a lot of attention.
As time moved on people decided they didn't want to live in a place called Dogtown so the changed the name to Magalia, which is Latin for cottages. I think I prefer Magalia as well.
Magalia is approximatly 4.8 miles from Paradise Ca. and shares many of the same amenities.
